I’m leaving NYC in 41 Days

I love New York.

Every time I come home to this city, I feel rejuvenated and filled with purpose. It’s hard to live here and not feel lucky to be alive.

In the three years I’ve lived here, I’ve done more things, met more interesting people, made more friends, and been happier than at any other point in my life.

So why am I leaving?

I’ve always wanted to try living in a bunch of different places before I decided to stop… Hawaii, California, New York, India, Japan, Texas, Arizona or New Mexico, a sleepy American small town. (Some of you know I was headed to Hawaii three years ago when a family event sent me back home to Connecticut. An unexpected opportunity to work with a personal hero, Seth Godin, brought me to NYC.) Now it’s time to try something new.

So what now?

I’m leaving at the end of August. After that, I’m not sure what’s next. My plan is to try out San Francisco for a while, though I might spend a month or two in work hibernation first, maybe traveling and visiting friends.

I’ll say a proper goodbye on this blog when I’m really leaving, but for now I have two goals for the next month:

  1. Do and experience the things that make NYC awesome as much as I can.
  2. Hang out with the amazing people I’ve met during my time here.

If you’d like to grab a bite or do something fun and awesome with me in NYC this August, drop me a line. I would love to see you.

p.s. House 2.0, the little oasis of friendly living I founded with my friend Isuru, continues. Aileen is moving to India, me to Cali, and Saha to Brooklyn. Isuru and Deedee are filling the three openings.

That sounds great, Amit. The fam and I almost moved to Jacksonville last year but changed our minds at the last minute. What a coincidence that you’re from CT, though. I’m sittin’ in Enfield myself this very moment (the town is rolling up the sidewalks as I type). What area are you from, if you don’t mind me asking?

Hey Kara, my folks are in Woodbridge, CT. That’s where I spent most of my time until college in Western Mass.

Noooooo!!!! Just kidding, California will be great, no doubt.

I have a long list in my head of things you should before you go, so I’ll get back to you with that. I’m hoping to get together another Prospect Park bbq soon…

Can anything convince you to stay?

Depends on what’s next for you, Charlie! ;-) ()Probably not, I love New York, but I’m ready for new adventures!)

That’s awesome news Amit - I’m happy for you (+ jealous!) :) Living in 10 cities is a goal I keep as well!

Wishing you a fabulous travel+stay adventure in all the places you wanna go.
Rest assured, you’ll have a welcoming committee when you come to India!

Baz Luhrman’s ‘Sunscreen Song’ comes to mind as I type this in…
“…Live in New York City once, but leave before it makes you hard. Live in Northern California once, but leave before it makes you soft…”
